Founded in 1584 in the Harz mountains of Germany, Hahnemühle is one of the oldest paper mills in the world. Their entry into digital fine art printing transformed the field: the Hahnemühle Photo Rag®, introduced in the early years of inkjet printing, established the category of smooth cotton rag papers for photographers and set a standard that the entire industry followed.

Every Hahnemühle fine art paper is made from 100% cotton, acid-free, lignin-free, and buffered for long-term stability. Their papers are certified by Wilhelm Imaging Research for longevity and are used in museum and gallery collections worldwide. Selecting a paper is not always straightforward. The same image can read very differently on a cool bright white versus a warm natural, on a smooth surface versus a textured one, on a matte versus a baryta. Sometimes the right choice is obvious from the nature of the work. Sometimes it requires a proof — or two.

We offer paper samples for clients who want to feel the options before committing, and we print hard proofs as standard for any production run where color accuracy is critical.
